Cold-Formed Design Seminar Series by HERA and NASH
Register NOW to receive earlybird pricing! This ends 17th November.
Dive deep into the world of cold-formed steel design, covering structural design and construction aspects, with this seminar series.
Part 1: Cold Formed Design (Structural)
University of Auckland: 30 Nov 2023, 1-5pm (In-person and virtual)
In this segment, our emphasis lies in offering:
- A thorough theoretical foundation for designing cold-formed steel members, discussing around the Effective Width and Direct Strength methods, as detailed in AS/NZS 4600-2018.
- An introduction to the Direct Strength method, underscoring its advantages over Effective Width method with computer calculations and simplicity.
- Computer modelling demonstrations using finite strip tool, THINWALL.
- Detailed connection outlines tailored for structures predominantly seen in New Zealand.
- Worked examples to fortify participants’ grasp over both methods.
- A session focusing on the sustainability of cold-formed designs, spotlighting a life cycle assessment for a typical New Zealand house.
Part 2: Cold Formed Design (Construction and Building Codes)
Mark your calendars! The exact timings for Part 2 will be communicated in the early months of 2024.
University of Waikato: TBC for next year in May
University of Auckland: TBC for next year in May
University of Canterbury: TBC for next year in May
In Part 2 next year, anticipate an exploration into:
- Construction and Building Code requirements.
- Key aspects like durability, building envelope thermal design, and moisture control.
Join us in this enlightening journey and gear up to elevate your understanding of cold-formed design from various perspectives!
