We’d like to invite researchers and practising engineers to submit abstracts for presentation at the upcoming meeting of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) Commission X Structural Performances of Welded Joints – Fracture Avoidance.
The meeting will be held in Auckland at HERA House, 12 – 13 March 2018.
The IIW is a not-for-profit organisation funded by their member countries, and we represent our New Zealand metals industry within this organisation. IIW’s mission is to act as the worldwide network for knowledge exchange of joining technologies – so for us this is a good relationship to maintain for the benefit of our members.
IIW Commission X comprises experts from several disciplines related to the design and analysis of welded structures, including buildings, bridges, offshore structures and equipment built of structural steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. It aims to develop procedures for assessing the strength and integrity of welded structures to ensure their safe design and in-service performance. This also includes seismic performance.
This meeting is a great opportunity to present and discuss papers covering issues related to fitness-for-service, fracture avoidance in seismic applications or similar. And for those papers that are endorsed at the commission meeting, they’ll be recommended to be published in the IIW’s Welding in the World journal!
We encourage any of our members or university researchers to submit abstracts. The deadline for the submission is 9 February 2018 – submissions will be considered on a first come first served basis due to limited places.
Send your complete abstract including document title, authors name and affiliation with attention to our General Manager Welding Centre Dr Michail Karpenko.
