Currently on secondment for his third year in Bachelor of Computing Systems at Eastern Institute of Technology Hawkes Bay, Tobias Kick comes to us through established connections with the OTH Technical University in Regensburg Germany.
Working under the supervision of our Research Engineer Holger Heinzel, Tobias brings a unique skill in programming language and tools to our Welding Centre – as we work to refresh and upgrade our online educational offerings to align to the latest syllabus of IIW, CBIP and NZQA.
Welding Centre General Manager Michail Karpenko said “we offer a range of well recognised courses in welding supervision and inspection – but we know that finding new ways to deliver learning faster, and with a higher degree of flexibility for course attendees is important.”
“Introducing a blended e-learning approach to our program that has content tailored to our student means uninterrupted learning and reduced work downtime for participants – while ensuring our industry has workers competent in meeting the requirements of standards such as AS/NZS 5131 and 1554,” he said.
The development of online e-learning technology is an ongoing HERA project that aims to provide students with instant feedback on their progression and achievements, and allow teachers to closely monitor their progress from an early stage to ensure a higher rate of success. It’s hoped this will enable our industry workforce to more seamlessly pursue career development – while keeping them at the forefront of technology advancements and the digital space.
“I’m looking forward to the next five months, where I’ll have an opportunity to put to practise my learnings on various applications of IT for HERA,” Tobias said.
“As I pursue a career in software engineering, it’s great to get exposure to a supportive work environment, and see how my own aspirations and ideas can contribute and integrate into the successes of a completely different sector – the heavy engineering industry.”
