Are you an engineer, product designer or manufacturer who decides what materials to use in your products?

Your parts could be better, cheaper, stronger or more eco-friendly if it was made out of metal rather than of plastic, composite or another material, or vice versa. How do you choose what material to use?

And do you know how to find a substitute when a particular material is no longer practical to use due to market, supplier, regulatory or manufacturing changes?

Callaghan Innovation’s principal scientist Karl Dahm is coming to HERA on Wednesday 7th September for an introductory session on ideas and methodology of material selection.

Karl is part of the Advanced Materials team at Callaghan Innovation that focuses on the design, preparation and application of advanced materials for the development of processes and products for the High Value Manufacturing Sector. The benefit of systematic materials selection will be shown by case studies.

Callaghan Innovation is charged with helping New Zealand businesses realise value from their ideas. Their mission is to encourage and support businesses to turn their ideas into new products, services, and processes faster, and to connect them to the technical services, talent, markets and funding they need to grow.
