We’d like to congratulate our members Harrison Grierson on their recent merger with traffic and transportation engineering specialists T2, Downer Group who have signed an agreement to acquire member Hawkins Construction, and IMG who have been showcased in NZ Engineering News for their latest acquisition of Stevenson Engineering Ltd in East Tamaki.
Harrison Grierson to become HGT2
Engineering design consultancy Harrison Grierson merged with traffic and transportation engineering specialists T2, creating a new business HGT2 – the first merger in their 131-year history and a significant milestone for both companies.
This merger brings T2’s skills in transportation planning studies, assessments, economic analyses, detailed design, safety studies and assessment, policy development and research to HGT2’s offered services – which will continue to operate from its Auckland CBD premises.
HGT2 Managing Director Glen Cornelius said, “Much thought and effort has gone into our decision to merge with T2 and we’re excited about the new opportunities it will create and the additional specialist services we can offer clients.”
Downer acquires Hawkins Group
Downer EDI Limited (Downer) announced recently that it had signed an agreement to acquire the construction, infrastructure and project management businesses of Hawkins, a New Zealand company, from the McConnell Family. Chief Executive of Downer Grant Fenn said Hawkins was an excellent strategic fit for Downer’s New Zealand business.
“Downer has a long and proud history in New Zealand that can be traced back more than a century,” Mr Fenn said. “Today we are a leading provider of services to our customers in a range of markets including transport, telecommunications and water.
“Hawkins is a New Zealand industry leader in construction and infrastructure and this acquisition will complement our existing Engineering, Construction and Maintenance capabilities while also providing a platform for growth. It is estimated that over NZ$50 billion will be invested in non-residential construction in New Zealand over the next five years.”
IMG purchases East Tamaki operations
Considerably enhancing IMG’s footprint and available specialist services, the purchase of Stevenson Engineering provides a mutually beneficial outcome to both companies – allowing them to focus on their strengths and core business activities to the heavy industrial engineering maintenance and project sector.
IMG Managing Director and HERA Executive Board member Bruce Bonner said, “We will continue to be a close and long-term partner to the Stevenson Group, providing maintenance and expertise to their mining, quarrying and ready mix concrete operation.”
“This acquisition provides an opportunity for us to exit and integrate our current Wiri workshop operation into East Tamaki, with plans to build an additional facility in Drury South Industrial Park in the next five years,” he said.
