Senior Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing

Welding Engineer

Registration of interest must be received by close of business 5 March 2021.

To uptake this opportunity, the successful company will need to meet the below criteria, as well as allow HERA to report on the outcome of the project as a case study.

Please read these notes carefully before completing the application form below.

Company eligibility criteria

  • You must be currently using a Yaskawa (Motoman), Fanuc, or ABB robot for arc welding applications.
  • Your robot controller needs to feature a controller which is compatible with Verbotics software. To note, most controllers produced in the last 15 years are suitable, but will need to be confirmed based on the specific model.
  • Accept Verbotics EULA.
  • Permit HERA the use of data associated with this project for analysis and reporting purposes anindustry demonstrations
  • Be able to provide a model of workcell and robot tooling and fixturing.
  • Have experience in programming the robot.
  • Have an accurate 3D model of a candidate workpiece.

Project steps and timeline

  • 28 February 2021 – member company selected
  • 2 April 2021 – first trial part programmed and welded using Verbotics Weld
  • 30 April 2021 – Verbotic Weld is used by company to program production robots

Verbotics Weld value proposition

Verbotics Weld is an advanced offline programming desktop application for arc welding applications that will change the way you currently utilise your robot. It automatically generates robot paths and motions to perform arc welds directly from a CAD model. This can significantly reduce the time and effort required to program an industrial robot.

This software changes the traditional approach to robot programming as users specify the weld process parameters in welding terminology. It uses advanced planning algorithms to create the robot paths, removing the need for a specialist robot programmer. And, the output is robot code that can be directly loaded onto the controller.

Key features include:

  • Set the welding position (flat, horizontal vertical, vertical up etc.) to automatically calculate the joint angles for the workpiece rotator.
  • Specify the range and optimum gun angles to automatically work out how to get in and out of corners and avoid other obstacles without collision.
  • Easily setup advanced welding functions such as stitch welds or multipass welding within a simple interface. Verbotics Weld will output these instructions in the robots native programming language.

You’ll be able to:

  • Estimate cycle time for new parts and projects.
  • Get help in designing fixtures and jigging by identifying areas that are difficult to access with your robot
  • Economically utilise your robot for lower volumes and highly customised parts.
