Darren O’Riley
General Manager, Steel Construction New Zealand (SCNZ)
I’m the General Manager of Steel Construction New Zealand bringing 9 years’ experience to the steel industry. Reporting to our SCNZ Executive, I support market development activity that grows the use of structural steel in construction – developing and implementing strategic initiatives, promoting industry capabilities and activities and providing value to our members along the way.
Having nearly worked my entire life in the New Zealand building and construction industry, I started my career as part of my family owned and operated fibrous plaster business in Wellington – since taking on roles where I’m responsible for driving business growth and development, new product implementation, lean manufacturing, marketing, health and safety and business improvement.
Projects I’ve worked on include structural steel, steel roofing, electricals, mouldings, and aluminium window and door installations – serving as Chairman of the Window and Door Association of New Zealand for seven years.
I’m passionate and proud to be involved in the Steel sector which delivers safe and resilient buildings to our communities. For me, HERA plays a critical and key part of this process and I’m honoured to be on their Executive where I can assist in achieving these goals and be involved in their industry activities.
