Marie-Salomé Duval-Chanéac

Structural Sustainability and Circular Economy Engineer

Within my role at HERA, I am dedicated to finding systemic solutions to reduce the environmental impact of our built environment, construction, and steel industry while ensuring safety and resiliency for future generations. My background as a Mechanical Engineer, specialising in Material Science and Sustainable Infrastructure Systems, enables me to approach these challenges with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved.

I bring a wide range of experience to this role, most recently working as a Research Assistant at the University of Auckland where I was appointed by the Research Centre CIRCUIT to conduct a survey for the Composite Association of New Zealand (CANZ), tracking the volume and types of materials associated with their industrial activity that enter and leave useful circulation in Aotearoa.

Having lived in France, England, and Taiwan, I bring diverse perspectives from European Ecology to my work. I hope that through collaborative efforts, Aotearoa can uphold the commitments made in the Paris Agreement and drive meaningful environmental progress.

My passion for material science extends to a deep appreciation for the elements that compose our structures and a commitment to wise resource management. I am fortunate to work alongside a team of highly experienced engineers who inspire me with their dedication to diverse and culturally relevant projects and I’m grateful to be part of the Structural Systems team where together, we aim to lead the way in sustainable engineering practices, ensuring a resilient and sustainable future for all.
