Research

Our impact-led research programs help lead heavy engineeringโ€™s manufacturing and construction sectors in Aotearoa.

At HERA, research and development is at the core of everything we do. Itโ€™s what fuels innovation in New Zealandโ€™s heavy engineering industry and drives us toward a future we can all be proud of.

This is why we work hard to create clear pathways of opportunity for our members. It is in the efforts of our small team of kairangahau (researchers) who collaborate with universities and associations to deliver smarter solutions.

We undertake research programmes in structural steel, light gauge steel, composite materials, welding, industry capability and business acumen. We test product and process, ensuring our members can confidently adopt new technologies, follow global best practice, and continue to evolve and succeed.
