Iโ€™m based in Te Papaioea, Palmerston North

I’m a 2023 recipient of a HERA Whanake Scholarship which is administered by Pลซhoro STEMM Academy

I report in to Rebecca Symonds

From early on, Iโ€™ve had a passion for engineering and the automotive industry, and Iโ€™m excited to further develop this interest as I pursue a Bachelorโ€™s in Mechatronics Engineering at Massey University.

I began my journey into engineering during my high school years at Kaipara College, where I studied calculus, physics, media, earth space science, and automotive engineering.

Receiving this scholarship is a significant opportunity for meโ€”it gives me time. Time that I would have spent at a part-time job can now be devoted to my studies and giving back to the community. In 2016, only 6% of engineers in Aotearoa were Mฤori, and Iโ€™m determined to help change that. I believe increasing Mฤori engagement in science and engineering is vital, and I want to inspire the next generation of Mฤori to step into these fields, paving the way for greater diversity and ultimately improving the industry.

To me, heavy engineering involves the transformation and fabrication of metal, contributing to diverse fields such as aerospace, shipbuilding, civil engineering, and steel production.

In my free time, Iโ€™m actively involved with my local surf lifesaving club as a qualified surf lifeguard and am completing the final stage of my Duke of Edinburgh Award. I also enjoy snow skiing, dirt biking, karate, and working on carsโ€”activities that keep me active, engaged, and connected to my community.
