I’m based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland

I hail from Te Papaioea, Palmerston North

I’m a 2023 recipient of a HERA Whanake Scholarship which is administered by Pūhoro STEMM Academy

I report in to Rebecca Symonds

I’m an entrepreneurial Māori engineering student with a passion for creating tech-forward solutions, currently studying for a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) at the University of Auckland.

Growing up, my passion for problem-solving and science has led me to a journey in engineering which has been deeply influenced by my Māori heritage. My cultural values are a source of pride and have enriched my educational path, driving me to pursue impactful solutions in technology, business, and innovation.

My fascination with technology and its power to solve real-world problems drew me to engineering. I’m excited by the challenge of integrating software and electrical systems to create innovative solutions, particularly within fields like construction and manufacturing. For me, engineering is a platform for turning creative ideas into practical solutions that can make a meaningful difference.

I’m currently focused on deepening my engineering knowledge, building on my work experience so far, and in the future, I hope to establish my own venture to leverage technology in enhancing manufacturing processes. My goal is to drive efficiency and sustainability, creating solutions that meet the industry’s evolving needs.

The Whanake Scholarship has been invaluable in supporting my engineering studies while celebrating my Māori heritage. I believe that increasing Māori representation in engineering is essential for diversity and inclusion and will bring unique insights and approaches to problem-solving, leading to more culturally relevant and sustainable solutions. Having more Māori in engineering also empowers younger generations, inspiring them to pursue careers in STEMM and drives positive change for future generations.

I’m honoured to receive the HERA Whanake Scholarship, which acknowledges my academic achievements and vision for the future. My receipt of the Nodero award as the top student in Level 3 Digital Technology, along with my involvement in the Pūhoro STEM Academy, reflects my commitment to technology and innovation.

Outside of my studies, I enjoy managing my business, working on personal software projects, and spending time outdoors.
