Our projects

Creating a roadmap for Welding 4.0

Driving industry understanding and adoption.

Part of our strategic focuses is to deliver solutions that support our members in technical excellence and knowledge transfer to ensure quality assurance and productivity in the mahi they deliver.

A major target to achieve this, is to drive industry understanding and adoption of automation, productivity and Industry 4.0 in their workplace.

In this research weโ€™re exploring the development of a Welding 4.0 readiness assessment tool for heavy engineering in Aotearoa and have also developed a Welding 4.0 roadmap and design of a testbed for smart welding.

Weโ€™ll also be looking to facilitate a technology management course which explores the future of welding inspection.

Welding 4.0 assessments

Assessing Industry 4.0 readiness to achieve your goals

Recognising the challenges faced by businesses in adapting to the rapidly evolving Industry 4.0 landscape, our rangahauhas been instrumental in developing targeted assessments aligned with the globally recognised โ€˜Smart Industry Readiness Indexโ€™ scheme.

By understanding the specific needs and hurdles within the welding sector, weโ€™ve been able to create an assessment service offering that evaluates a companyโ€™s readiness for digital transformation and provides a strategic roadmap to integrate digital processes across their operations. Participants are then provided practical recommendations and actionable strategies to enhance their operational performance.

Through extensive analysis and industry collaboration, weโ€™ve been able to identify common challenges faced by our members, particularly in automating fabrication processes. This has not only informed our assessment services but also highlighted potential projects to support improvements in efficiency, cost reduction, and process optimisation.

Industry 4.0 innovation cluster

An active interest group to explore the future of automation

Throughout the year, various events are organised to provide attendees with first-hand experience of new technology and practical insights from leading experts in their field.

From spearheading trips to the University of Wollongongโ€™s (UOW) Facility for Intelligent Fabrication (FIF) in Australia to help attendees understand advances being made in several areas such as robotics, augmented reality, scanners and dust suppression technology, to workshops throughout Aotearoa – our Industry 4.0 cluster group seeโ€™s it all.
