Last week we received confirmation that the planned HERA Innovation Centre has been registered for assessment with the NZ Green Building Council for certification.

This registration assessment is under the Green Star – Design & As Built NZv1.0 rating tool.

The Centre has been designed by Gaze Commercial and will showcase a range of Industry 4.0 technologies and expand HERA’s research, training and demonstration capabilities that it has already created in the fab4.0lab.

Creation of this facility, along with the recently announced Construction 4.0 Endeavour Fund funding, positions HERA at the forefront of the practical application of Industry 4.0 and the steel industry as a leader in transformation and innovation adoption.

The HERA Board and the HERA Foundation Trustees were both keen to support the proposal submitted by HERA to showcase the sustainability of steel buildings through targeting six star green star accreditation. This is because it positions our building in the category of “world leadership” in terms of sustainability, and it also means that the HERA Innovation Centre itself will be an example of steel’s sustainability credentials.

In terms of industry support for this build, WSP is providing assistance in the accreditation process. Several sponsors for the building have also come forward. An example of this being New Zealand Steel who have agreed to provide steel and Steltech who have agreed to provide the structural steel framework.

We are still seeking sponsorship, so if you are interested in contributing materials, services or financial support – please let me know.
