Meet Dr. Vladislav Yakubov

HERA is thrilled to welcome Dr. Vladislav Yakubov to our ACM CRC research program team.

Dr. Yakubov is currently an additive manufacturing postdoctoral research associate at the University of Sydney in Australia who received his PhD in mechanical engineering in 2022. He brings a fantastic wealth of expertise to our team and a strong academic background in additive manufacturing techniques and novel material characterisation techniques of welded and 3 D printed metal composites.

About the ACM CRC research

ACM CRC  has united over 30 partners in a groundbreaking $250 million program under Australia’s Cooperative Research Centres initiative, spanning a decade. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to harness the world’s leading research teams in the development of composite steel applications with a strong focus on sustainability and circular design principles.

In the inaugural project with the University of Sydney (USYD) and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), HERA aims to establish an AI-based monitoring system for assessing the quality of manufactured composite products, including steelwork. This system will optimise inspection requirements and manage compliance risks through extensive big data analysis. The project also encompasses the collection and analysis of productivity data, in-service health monitoring, and the development of novel 3D printing techniques capable of reusing or recycling materials based on their remaining properties, all aligned with Circular Design 4.0 principles.

About Dr. Yakubov and his role in this research

Dr. Yakubov will support the delivery and management of all of our projects. In particular, he will be responsible for leading and providing R&D support for sub-project 4 and technical input for sub-projects 1-3.

Sub-project 4 titled ‘Innovative metal composites – Additive Friction Stir Deposition of Aluminium/Steel: manufacturing, recycling and reuse,’ will explore the possibilities of additive manufacturing and sustainable practises through linkages to circular design principles. On this sub-project Dr. Yakubov will work closely with an assigned PhD student, overseeing critical activities such as student training, literature review development, sample manufacturing and microstructure, mechanical properties, and residual stress characterisation. This work will lead to the output of two journal publications and one PhD thesis.

His position will be strategically divided between USYD and ANSTO. We believe this arrangement will allow him the opportunity to not only leverage state-of-the-art equipment and collaborative opportunities across both institutions but also enrich the scope and impact of his work.

Looking forward…

HERA recognises the critical role that engineering excellence, intelligent automation, and advanced technology implementation can play when working in conjunction with top Australian universities as part of the ACM CRC – and so, we are very excited to have Dr. Yakubov as part of our research team.

We are confident that his enthusiasm for pushing boundaries in manufacturing, coupled with his scholarly acumen and practical expertise, makes him an invaluable asset to our team and reinforces our commitment to driving excellence and sustainability in advanced manufacturing.
