smart construction – project lead
University of Auckland
Senior Lecturer Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
My expertise lies in performance-based earthquake engineering, risk and resilience analysis, and using technology to enhance building safety and sustainability.
Iโm based in Tฤmaki Makaurau, Auckland
My areas of expertise are probabilistic models, complex network analysis, risk & resilience analysis and modelling, agent-based and systems dynamics modelling.
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Auckland.
My academic journey has included being a Fulbright New Zealand Scholar at UCLA and a visiting scholar in Japan and the USA. My passion for disaster resilience was sparked in 2008, when I worked as a consulting structural engineer on post-tsunami reconstruction in Indonesia.
I lead QuakeCoREโs research on the functional recovery of multi-storey buildings and contribute to the Construction 4.0 research theme on smart construction.
Iโm honoured to have received several awards for my work, including the Fulbright New Zealand Scholar Award, the University of Auckland Faculty of Engineering Top Teachers Award, and the Project Management Institute New Zealand Research Achievement Award.
In the smart construction theme we’re investigating the intrinsic properties of ‘file to factory’ workflows.
Just recently we had our kick-off meeting with the Construction 4.0 team at HERA House – joined by many of our team.
HERA has been successful in the 2022 round of funding for a four-year Construction 4.0 research project.
