Many people depend on the status quo – but I’ve always preferred to make my own discoveries, finding innovative approaches and practical solutions to complex challenges. After all, a new idea isn’t worth anything unless it works!

Did you know…

I joined the HERA whānau in 2025!

I speak Afrikaans

I hold the following qualifications:
IIW International Welding Technologist (IIW IWT)
IIW International Welding Specialist (IIW IWS)
IIW International Welding Inspector (IIW IWI)

When I was young, I dreamed of becoming an architect – I think because I’ve always had a thirst for knowledge, a drive to create and design, and a deep curiosity to master topics that interest me.

Fast forward to today, and I see myself as a thoughtful tactician – someone who enjoys applying rationale and logic to my work, while still valuing creativity and imagination. These qualities have ultimately fuelled my passion for welding, where I’ve found the perfect balance between complexity and innovation. To me, welding is such a specialised and vital process in heavy engineering, and there’s so much opportunity to optimise it to drive our industry forward.

Now, as a Senior Welding Engineer at HERA, I bring more than 15 years of experience working on large-scale operations in the power generation, petrochemical, and industrial sectors, alongside a strong background in research and development. My role is broad – from delivering training and providing technical support, to maintaining quality systems through audits and knowledge transfer, and contributing to research and guideline development. I’m passionate about helping our members lift their capability by adopting innovative welding techniques and technologies that are practical, proven, and cost-effective.

Outside of work, my wife and I love to travel and spend time outdoors hiking and soaking in nature, and we’re also avid ocean lovers. There is something about the outdoors that really awakens the senses. Having immigrated from South Africa, we’ve been captivated by the natural beauty of Aotearoa New Zealand, and are excited to explore its snow-capped mountains, majestic fjords, and rugged coastlines.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to immerse myself further into the welcoming and diverse community here in Aotearoa, where I hope to continue growing – and contributing positively to the socio-economic development of this beautiful country.
