2024 acm crc scholarship: circular design 4.0
University of Sydney
Post Doctoral Research Fellow, Additive Manufacturing
Joining HERAโs ACM CRC research team represents an incredible opportunity to blend engineering innovation with sustainability, two passions that drive my work. By leveraging top technology, intelligent automation, and collaborative synergies with Australian universities, Iโm excited to help shape the future of advanced manufacturing.
Iโm based in Ahitereiria, Sydney Australia
Iโm a recipient of a 2024 ACM CRC Scholarship
I’m an additive manufacturing postdoctoral research associate at the University of Sydney, where my work is focused on pioneering additive manufacturing techniques and developing innovative material characterisation methods for welded and 3D-printed metal composites.
My academic journey spans a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelorโs degree in mechanical engineering with honours from the University of South Florida. I also gained invaluable research experience as an undergraduate under a global NSF grant, conducting materials studies at the University of Science and Technology Beijing and Henan University of Science and Technology.
As part of HERA’s ACM CRC research program, Iโm excited to lead and support several critical R&D initiatives, particularly in sustainable and advanced manufacturing. My main focus is on Sub-project 4, titled “Innovative Metal Composites โ Additive Friction Stir Deposition of Aluminium/Steel: Manufacturing, Recycling, and Reuse.” In this role, Iโll be collaborating closely with a PhD student, where weโll dive into key areas like sample manufacturing, microstructural analysis, mechanical property evaluation, and residual stress characterisation. Our goal is to publish two journal papers and contribute a PhD thesis, pushing forward our understanding and application of additive manufacturing in sustainable practices.
Additionally, Iโll provide technical input and oversight for sub-projects 1-3, supporting project delivery – ensuring we stay on track toward achieving our research goals.
With my role split between the University of Sydney and ANSTO, Iโll have access to cutting-edge equipment and collaborative networks at both institutions. This setup not only amplifies the impact of my work but also strengthens the collaborative potential within our team and across the broader research landscape.
Dr. Vladislav Yakubov joins our ACM CRC research team to support our innovative metal composite research focus.
