The original 2018 study included comprehensive evidence such as HERA member surveys, expert interviews, and industry activity data. This updated report narrows its scope to recent documentation and data analysis, specifically focusing on ferrous metals manufacturing and excluding aluminium-related activities.

The report is structured around the four capitals—natural, human, social, and physical/financial—and highlights both long-standing insights and new findings that illustrate the metals industry’s role in supporting sustainable development. It also explores how these contributions align with government frameworks, connecting the four capitals (inputs) with the four wellbeings (outcomes) to emphasise the industry’s broader impact on living standards in New Zealand. This resource is designed to help the metals industry understand and communicate its critical role in building a resilient and sustainable future.
