FAQs

What does the course cost?

Cost depends on if you have HERA membership and what your membership category is. See pricing above

Do I have to do the exams straight after this course?

No, however it is wise to sit the exams while the information is fresh to you. Ultimately you can sit the exams anytime they are held after attending and completing the course work.

How often is this course held?

The Welding Supervisor course is held twice a year in both Auckland and Christchurch.

What can this course lead to?

On completion, attendees are able to progress forward to the HERA AS 2214.1 Welding Inspector qualification.

The pathway for qualification is as follows:

AS 2214.1 Welding Supervisor qualification as required by AS/NZS 5131 and the Steel Fabricator Certification (SFC) scheme.

AS 2214.1 Welding Inspector qualifications; this course is the prerequisite for:

AS 2214.1 Welding Inspector including Proficiency in Visual Testing of Welded Joints to AS/NZS ISO 17637

CBIP Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) this covers the welding technology “Knowledge Requirements” (Ref. CBIP Doc. No PRO-CER-07).

I have an international welding qualification, can I transfer the qualification to New Zealand or skip the Welding Supervisor course and just do the Welding Inspector qualifications?

Unfortunately, no. Our qualifications are to New Zealand standards which will be different to what you have learnt overseas. As such, you’ll need to demonstrate understanding of New Zealand Standard requirements which are gained in this course.

Can I skip this course and just do the Welding Inspection course?

For AS 2214.1 Welding Inspector this course is mandatory to completion and pass before you are able to register.

For CBIP CWI the course is recommended.

If I just do the course but do not take the exams what do I get?

An attendance Certificate is available detailing the course content.
