Innovating and succeeding through FY24

HERA’s AGM was held last week and celebrated the achievements of our mahi across FY24.

Attended by several HERA members, we reflected on a successful FY24  which delivered on what we promised in our FY23 Annual Report – to deliver “an unprecedented program of research, training and publication planned for the year ahead, with continued focuses on structural fire engineering, seismic, Industry 4.0, Mātauranga Māori interfaces, sustainability, design guidance and software development”.

We continued our mahi leading the $10.3 million Endeavour funded project with a four year program of work in Construction 4.0. This research has certainly expanded our research capabilities in circular design, Monitoring 4.0, sustainability, and mātauranga Māori interfaces.

Our focus on circular and low carbon design saw us successfully obtain $150K funding from the building research levy, administered by BRANZ, for a project titled “Circular design for a changing environment: a design framework to reduce construction waste, lifecycle embodied carbon, and to engage the circular economy for construction materials, with a pilot for low-rise buildings”. This project is due to complete in FY25.

We also joined the $70 million Australian Composites Manufacturing Co-operative Research Centre, as one of only two international partners. This sees us engage in a ten year program of world-leading AI and robotics/automation research, relevant to composite manufacturing and fabrication and aiming to improve productivity in heavy engineering.

Board updates

The governance of HERA is made possible by a unique blend of industry leaders with a range of governance expertise and experience in heavy engineering.

This year, there was only one available elected position on the Board, and the HERA membership nominated Craig Stevenson for this role.  Craig was therefore appointed unopposed.

The HERA Board re-elected Craig as the Chair for FY24 and Jeremy Smith as the Deputy Chair.

Our team would like to thank the Board for their continued support and contributions to our mahi!
