Planetary accounting

As we work to restore balance with our planet, we need tools that measure our true impact.

Planetary accounting is a science-based framework that measures how human activity interacts with the planet’s environmental boundaries. It goes beyond carbon to assess a wide range of impacts such as waste, water, pollution, and biodiversity loss – providing context for how much is too much.

HERA collaborated with the Planetary Accounting Network to apply this approach to the design of our IndustryX.O Centre, making it the first building in Aotearoa to be assessed in this way. This partnership is helping us understand the true environmental footprint of construction and how industry can operate within the limits of a healthy planet.
